Why Work With Style Guide?

I moved to the consulting side of the profession because I wanted to teach and share what I’ve learned after so many years in AEC. I enjoy the puzzle of helping clients figure out strategies that enable success and am thrilled when I help make their work life easier and more efficient. I also truly enjoy hearing people’s stories and, even though it’s because I’m interested, I will weave those stories into your brand.

I believe that a holistic approach to marketing, PR, and BD is the only avenue for success. Why? Because it allows me to help my clients produce clear and consistent messaging on all channels —proposals, articles, email and social media campaigns, websites, graphics, and more. This messaging will reflect your firm’s expertise, values, identity, staff, and clients. If you have this in place, then I can help you create new materials that are relevant and resonate.

Aside from experience, much of what I preach is based on input and feedback from actual selection committee members. I have interviewed them for articles and conferences and synthesize that information into the work I do for my clients.

My Approach

  • I get to know and understand my clients so well that everything I deliver is spot-on.

  • I will increase your success rate and visibility.

  • I know the AEC profession deeply, resulting in my ability to write the gamut of copy without impacting your time.

  • I believe in the AEC profession and its place in the world and my writing reflects that passion.

  • I’m fun to work with and 100% myself.

  • I think outside the box and believe that there is always a way to accomplish something.

  • I do what I say.

  • I get along with my client’s staff and get to know them so I can fill a marketing role when there is no marketing person.

There’s a well-known quote from a Harvard business professor, “People don't want to buy a quarter-inch drill. They want a quarter-inch hole!”

He meant that customers aren’t interested in the product, but the outcome or solution. The wording of the quote is a bit problematic because we still need the drill. But I agree that most businesses spend too much time talking about the problem and the product (aka the drill) when what they should be talking about is what that drill lets them achieve.

This is my goal, to get my clients to tell their clients how they will help them and their projects be successful.
